Another firefighter injured in deadly Tremont blaze released from the hospital

Another firefighter injured in a Tremont blaze that claimed the lives of two of his colleagues was released Tuesday from Cornell Hospital.

Eugene Stolowski of Rescue 3 will now undergo rehab treatment for injuries he suffered January 23 when he and five other firefighters were forced to jump from the fourth floor of a burning building on East 178th Street. Lieutenant Curtis Meyran, 46, of Battalion 26 and 37-year-old firefighter John Bellew of Ladder 27 were both killed. Another firefighter was released from the hospital last week and another last month. One other firefighter remains at Cornell Hospital.

FDNY investigators determined the men were forced to jump because of illegal partitions inside the apartment that blocked access to the fire escapes.
