The cost of commuting from the Bronx about to increase
?In an effort to erase a multi million-dollar budget deficit, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will be raising the price for unlimited weekly and monthly MetroCards and express bus passes starting after midnight on Saturday. According to the MTA, the cost of a weekly unlimited MetroCard will increase by $3 to $24 and a monthly unlimited MetroCard will go up by $6 to $76. Also affected by the increase will the one-way express bus pass by $1 to $5 and the seven-day express bus by $8 to $41. The cost of a single ride will remain $2. The grace period for those who buy before the deadline is March 7 for the unlimited weekly MetroCards and express bus passes. Riders will have until April 3 for the unlimited monthly passes. The MTA will also increase tolls on bridges and tunnels by 50 cents and EZ pass user will be charged an extra dollar a month.
