Former Bronx Borough President Ferrer may be gearing up for mayoral race

(03/04/05) THE BRONX ? Former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer seems to be moving forward with his bid to run for New York City mayor in the next election.

Although he hasn?t officially announced his candidacy, several signs point to Ferrer running against Mayor Michael Bloomberg. Ferrer is operating a campaign out of an office on 38th Street in Manhattan, complete with several new staff members working to possibly get him elected. Ferrer has even referred to himself as a candidate.

According to the latest Quinnipiac Poll, Ferrer leads Bloomberg 47 percent to 39 percent among voters in New York. However, Ferrer says he hasn?t officially announced his candidacy because his camp is working hard to raise funds and build a campaign. The former borough president says he doesn?t want to ?get all dressed up to be in second place.?
