Major revitalization project scheduled for Hunts Point

The mayor and borough president announced Tuesday that a major revitalization project is scheduled for Hunts Point.

Politicians felt the waterfront property was not being used. The plan is to rezone the area to bring in the Fulton Fish Market, a meat market and a produce market. Two new parks and a bicycle trail are also planned. The project includes adding more trains to the area.

Hunts Point has the highest unemployment in the Bronx. An employment agency opened up to handle the new jobs created by the project. The city has pledged $27 million for Hunts Point and politicians have secured more funds.

The Fulton Fish Market is scheduled to open in April while other projects in Hunts Point will continue for the next 10-15 years.
