Two teachers arrested at New School for Arts and Sciences back at work

The two teachers who were arrested following a brawl at the New School for Arts and Sciences Tuesday were back in the classroom Wednesday.

The fight happened in a school bathroom and involved six female students, who were also arrested. The two teachers, Quinn Kronen and Cara Woltson, along the students were charged with disorderly conduct and issued criminal summonses. According to police, the teachers tried to block the doorway while they were trying to take the students into custody.

The teachers' union says it will wait for the Department of Education to finish its investigation, but has hired lawyers to represent the teachers if needed. The union president issued a statement saying, "Something is very, very wrong when teachers try to stop a fight and get arrested instead. Obviously we'll pursue this, but it appears that by giving them a desk appearance ticket, even cops realized the teachers did not commit a crime. It sounds like an apology, not a criminal charge, is in order for the teachers."

Meantime, officials increased security at the school.
