Bronx hospital taking measures to prevent the spread of viruses

A Bronx hospital is taking measures to prevent the spread of infectious viruses. Medical experts say many patients suffer from preventable infections while being treated at a hospital.

The chief infection control nurse at Jacobi Medical Center says if a patient comes into the hospital and is coughing, either the staff or the patient may be required to wear a mask. There are also signs throughout the hospital reminding people how to prevent the spread of germs.

Lawmakers have introduced a bill that would require all state hospitals to report infection rates of patients on a regular basis to the Department of Health.
