Saint Thomas Aquinas School evacuated; principal announces resignation

A Catholic elementary school in the Bronx closed its doors and parents were asked to pick up their children Monday morning. Teachers from Saint Thomas Aquinas School on Daly Avenue told parents there was an emergency situation at the school. When the parents arrived to pick up their children, students told them there was a foul odor in the classrooms and cafeteria. Most parents say they are fed up with constant heat and odor problems at the school and want answers. Meanwhile, parents also received two letters when they arrived. One stated that spring break, which was scheduled to start on Wednesday, was starting Monday instead. The other letter was from the principal announcing his resignation effective July 31. A spokesperson from the New York Archdiocese said the school is being investigated and they will soon issue a full report.
