Bronx-born coaches enjoy championship success on the hardwood

(03/22/05) THE BRONX ? Some Bronx-born hoops coaches are looking back and celebrating their successful championship seasons.

Regis High School Head Coach Kevin Cullen, who was born in the Bronx, saw his team cap off a successful season with the Class B boy?s title. The Raiders knocked off Fieldston in the semis and then defeated Palmyra-Macedon in the finals.

Christ the King?s Bob Mackey is another coach with Bronx roots that enjoyed success on the hardwood. His team was tops in the girls Class A bracket with a win over Murry Bergtraum. The victory was the first state championship for Christ the King in five years. It?s also the second state championship for Mackey as a coach.
