Some BX schools hold forums for parents to meet education council candidates
Beginning Monday night and extending through the week, several Bronx schools will be holding forums so parents can meet the candidates running for the community education councils in their district.
The city?s parent education councils meet monthly to review school budgets and polices. Bronx parents are urged to get involved in the councils covering their children?s school district. The forums are not only a chance to meet the candidates, but also a chance for parents to nominate themselves for the councils.
Mayor Bloomberg started the parent councils last year after a mandate by the state. Under state guidelines, each Bronx council should include nine parents that are elected by the heads of parents associations and two parents appointed by the borough president.
