NYC Transit to buy additional hybrid buses in effort to curb pollution

After coming under pressure to reduce harmful emissions, New York City Transit officials announced Tuesday that they will purchase additional hybrid buses. The city has purchased 325 hybrid buses so far, that?s 7 percent of the total fleet. Under the new plan, officials say they hope to buy about 500 more. Some groups near bus depots have complained that diesel buses in their neighborhoods contribute to respiratory problems. Transit officials say the hybrid buses are more efficient than the natural gas buses and run just as clean.
