Skate Key Entertainment Center in Mott Haven holds rally to protest NYPD

Skate Key Entertainment Center in Mott Haven held a protest rally Thursday against the New York Police Department. Skate Key workers say they have been periodically harassed by members of the 40th precinct since 1996. In February, police temporarily closed the skating rink for selling alcohol to minors.Since then the establishment has reopened under certain restrictions. The restrictions include an earlier closing time, loss of a liquor license and not permitting people under the age of 16 to enter after a certain time. Skate Key?s general manger says he feels the restrictions are unfair. He has a petition, signed by more than 3,000 patrons, that he plans to take to a judge. In the meantime, Skate Key says it hopes the rally will give Bronx residents a chance to see what they say is the true side of the story.
