Bronx residents say money given by city isn?t enough for Seton Park renovations
Bronx residents say the money given by the city to repair Seton Park isn?t enough to complete renovations.
People who use Seton Park say the sports fields can?t drain water properly and are dangerous. Many residents have been fighting to fix up the park and city council finally, secured $200,000 for improvements. However, the Parks Department estimates the entire renovation of Seton Park may cost approximately $2 million. Many residents say they?ve raised nearly $500,000 in resources to help with costs, but the Parks Department rejected the offer, saying the city doesn?t accept those kind of donations.
Residents say if the Parks Department doesn?t come through for them they are hoping New York City Councilman Oliver Koppel, who represents the district will. Koppel says he hopes to set aside additional money in the 2006 budget, which should be completed by the end of June. Meanwhile, the money the city council secured will be used to renovate the drainage system and improve field conditions.
