Bronx residents have a new way to volunteer to help their community

Bronx residents now have a new way to find volunteer opportunities in the borough and throughout New York City.

Volunteer NYC is a new way for Bronx residents to search through more than 500 volunteer positions on the Internet. The Web site connects volunteer seekers to a database of non-profit groups. Positions can be searched by zip code, interest or time.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg says he hopes the site will make learning how to become a volunteer easy. Operators with 311 are also available to help anyone who does not have access to the Internet.
