Students at P.S. 130 learn how city government works at City Hall Academy
Field trips, court proceedings and drafting proposals have kept some Bronx fourth graders busy at City Hall Academy. At the academy, elementary, middle and high school students, as well as teachers, are invited to participate in programs aimed at teaching how city government works.
After three weeks, the children at P.S. 130 know their rights and they are learning how to exercise them. Students are using their newfound city government knowledge to present their principal with a plan for a new science program and a playground. City Hall Academy opened nearly two years ago and classes are selected to participate by the regional superintendent.
