Department of Education announces plan to extend P.S. 71 in Pelham Bay

Parents and students at P.S. 71 in Pelham Bay got the news that they had been waiting for Monday when the Department of Education announced plans to expand the school. Parents say the change is necessary because students were being forced out of the school too early. Parents also say they were concerned about the safety of their children. They say other schools in the area that their children might have attended are dangerous. The school will be expanded to accommodate sixth, seventh and eight-graders by 2006.
