Local programs in the Bronx offer help for victims of sexual assault

Sexual assault is a common crime in the Bronx and some local programs are aimed at turning victims into survivors. Public hospitals in the Bronx offer a program for victims of rape or sexual assault called the Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). As part of the program, a specially trained advocate and a doctor are available for victims to speak with. If the victim agrees, a medical exam is preformed. Another program victims can take advantage of is Safe Horizons. This program offers shelter and counseling with no questions asked. Both of these programs are free, confidential and doctors say, the key to getting stronger.Related Article
