Bronx residents rally in Union Square against proposed adult education cuts
Bronx residents were among hundreds of people who rallied in Union Square Friday against proposed adult education cuts. In his 2006 budget, President Bush proposed cutting $270 million for adult education programs saying they're not effective. Many fear these cuts would cripple opportunities for Bronx immigrants who are trying to learn the English language so they can make a better life for themselves and their families. The rally received some federal attention as Bronx Congressman Jose Serrano (D-NY) told residents he will fight to restore funding and keep adult education in Bronx communities.
