Greek Orthodox Christians in Pelham Bay celebrate Holy Week

Greek Orthodox Christians in the Bronx celebrated Palm Sunday this past Sunday which marked the beginning of their holy Week.

More than 500 Bronx residents attended services at a Pelham Bay Greek Orthodox church. Parishioners say Holy Week is a time for fasting and preparing for Easter. The Pelham Bay church will hold services every day this week and will have a re-enactment of the crucifixion next Saturday.

Parishioners say Easter is the biggest holiday for Greek Orthodox Christians. Church officials say they expect nearly 1,000 Bronx residents to gather for next weekend?s Easter services.
