American Lung Association gives Bronx a failing grade when it comes to air quality

For years the Bronx has been failing clean air tests, but this year experts say the air residents breathe has gotten even worse. Usually the Bronx receives a grade of ?D?, this year the borough got an ?F?. Officials from the American Lung Association say heavy traffic and home heating oil are just some of the factors that has made breathing levels dangerous. Officials say the unhealthy air can lead to serious illness such as asthma, stroke and heart attacks. Just last week, the City Council voted in favor of a series of bills that will help cut down on harmful diesel emissions in the Bronx. American Lung Association officials are urging Mayor Bloomberg (R-NY) to sign them into law.
