Thousands ride through the Bronx for annual Five Borough Bike Tour

Thousands of people rode through the Bronx Sunday as part of the annual Five Borough Bike Tour.

The participants started the tour in Battery Park in Manhattan, rode through all five boroughs and ended in Staten Island. Riders had to brave the rain, but say it couldn?t have stopped them from making the trek across the city. Bronx participants say the bike tour is a chance to see the city and get a good workout.

East 138th Street in the Bronx was shut down for the event. Approximately 1,200 volunteers were on staff at rest areas and security points. This is the 28th year for the Five Borough Bike Tour, which is the largest recreational cycling event in the United States. Riders say more than 40,000 people from all over the country participate in the 42-mile tour.
