Education advisor recognizes Bronx charter school for academic excellence
A Bronx charter school was recognized by President Bush's top education advisor Monday. Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R-NY) joined U.S. Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings at KIPP Academy to kick off National Charter Schools Week celebration. For the seventh consecutive year, the charter school has the highest performing public middle school in the Bronx for reading, math and attendance. The school, founded by David Levin, prepares Bronx students academically and musically -- a recipe education officials say equals success. Schools Chancellor Joel Klein says there are plans to open up two more KIPP Academies and other charter schools in the Bronx.
