Explosion at industrial laundry facility in Port Morris sends two workers to hospital

Workers were evacuated after an explosion rocked an industrial laundry facility in Port Morris Wednesday. A 200-pound hot water boiler blew up at Modern Tech Cleaners Industrial Facility. The explosion collapsed part of the building sending cement bricks tumbling onto the sidewalk. Two mechanics standing nearby were caught in the crossfire, and sent to Jacobi Medical Center where they are listed in stable condition. The plants manager says the boiler was fairly new and he had just checked it that morning. Officials, however, say the pressure from the steam became too much and the boiler exploded. The plant has closed for the day, but it is expected to reopen Thursday morning.
