Health officials urge Bronx residents to take steps to control asthma

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is encouraging Bronx residents to take steps to control their asthma during this spring allergy season. As allergy season gets underway, Bronx and city hospitals are seeing a spike in asthma-related emergency room visits. According to health officials, however, many of those visits could be avoided. Bronx residents account for one-third of all asthma-related hospital visits in the city. Officials also say hospital visits from Bronx children suffering from asthma have doubled in the past 15 years. Related link The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
