Two-dozen Bronx immigrant service centers accused of swindling clients

Two-dozen Bronx immigrant service centers are accused of swindling their clients.

City officials say the centers faked law licenses and charged bogus fees. Officials add that the centers didn?t comply with contract guidelines.

The city?s Consumer Affairs Department released a list of 76 centers that violated a new law designed to protect immigrants. Local Law 31 states that all centers must provide contracts written and understood by their customers. The law also states that centers must have signs letting consumers know they are not allowed to provide legal services. If you feel you have been cheated by an immigrant center, call the city?s hotline at 311.
