Some students at Middle School 118 receive free computers

Some students at Middle School 118 in the Bronx were given the special gift of a computer for free.

The Computers for Youth donated the computers to the schools. School officials then pick which students are eligible to receive the computers. The organization selects schools based on how much of the student population is eligible for subsidized lunch programs. At Middle School 118 every sixth and seventh grader was eligible for one. Before families took home the computers they learned about software programs and explored the Internet.

Representatives from Computers for Youth say 100 families were given computers. They plan to give away 600 more computers to the same school this year.
