Bus Rapid Transit system study conducted in the Bronx
The city is looking to implement a Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system and is already conducting studies on five bus routes in the Bronx.
The BRT is already being used in big cities in the country and around the world. The BRT system is controlled by computers and has special lanes for buses so it doesn?t have to share the roads with cars. The BRT will also have a waiting time alert at bus stops for passengers.
The BRT is still in a conceptual phase for the city, but the Department of Transportation hopes to complete its study and install the system by 2007.
