Bronx elected officials announce support for Ferrer in his bid for mayor

Former Bronx Borough President Fernando Ferrer moved a step closer in making his bid for mayor official Thursday. A handful of elected officials gathered with supporters on the steps of the Bronx County Court House to endorse Ferrer. Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrion and Assemblyman Jose Rivera (D-BX) added their support. Ferrer's campaign encountered public outcry in March when he told a group of police officers the killing of Amadou Diallo was not an indictable crime. However, that did not stop City Council Majority Leader Joel Rivera from endorsing Ferrer.Ferrer ranks first among city Democrats in the latest Marist College Poll. Thirty-four percent of Democrats said they would support him over Manhattan Borough President C. Virginia Fields.
