Hope of Israel senior center may close its doors, leaving members stranded

Hundreds of Bronx seniors may soon be without their senior center. The Hope of Israel Jewish Congregation owns the senior center building and the synagogue on Gerard Avenue. The congregation?s membership has been dwindling for years and they say they can no longer afford to keep the senior center open. The center's director says there are already several bidders for the site. But she says there should be a four-month lag period between the time the deal is brokered and the day the seniors have to move out.
