Police look to install surveillance cameras in six locations throughout the Bronx
A crime fighting initiative in the Bronx is being expanded to other parts of the borough and city. Police say they plan to install surveillance cameras in six locations throughout the Bronx. Shoppers in The Hub say they think the cameras will reduce crime. Officials say they are waiting for approval from the New York Police Department on the locations they chose for the cameras. The high-quality digital tape cameras won't be monitored, but will be reviewed later if a crime occurs in the area. Placement of the cameras is similar to the initiative the NYPD launched last December along Fordham road. Those cameras are monitored in real time by police officers from a command post.
