Successful first year for healthy cafeteria meal plan in Bronx public schools
Bronx public school students are just finishing their first year under a new cafeteria meal plan and school officials say it?s been a huge success. The Department of Education has tried to increase availability of healthier eating options, while making them attractive to students of all ages. Bronx cafeterias are offering lower sodium and lower fat protein options, like veggie burgers and tofu wraps. They are also getting rid of unhealthy foods, like fried potato chips. School officials say they hope to build on this year?s success, by expanding healthy food options this coming summer and next year.
