Some Bronx students spend Saturdays perfecting musical abilities

Some students from the Bronx spend their Saturdays in a classroom perfecting their musical skills.

It is the first year for a string ensemble at C.S. 211 because music teacher Freddie Escobar worked to make it happen. Escobar set up a Web site for people to donate money for a school cause. From the Web site, the school raised more than $4,000, which was enough to buy 12 violins, seven violas, seven cellos and three basses.

Escobar says the program is set to end when the school year is over. However, he is working to continue the program throughout the summer or at least six weeks.
