Fire department to issue escape ropes to every firefighter in Bronx and city

The New York Fire Department is preparing Monday begin issuing rope escape systems to each firefighter. The plan comes less than five months after two firefighters jumped to their deaths to escape a fire in a Bronx apartment. It will cost the city $11 million to purchase and distribute the 11,000 units. Officials say they hope to have all ropes distributed and in use by September.
