Bronx Terminal Market supporters hold protest before City Council meeting

The battle for the Bronx Terminal Market erupted again at City Hall Wednesday. Tenants are fighting the city's plan to lease more than one million square feet of the market to build a mall. Small businesses owners testified on behalf of tenants at the meeting. They claim that their businesses will suffer without the merchants. The merchants claim the $8 million assistance program offered by the site's new landlord is unfair. Instead, they want to be included in the retail complex planned for the market space. In the meantime, the merchants are waiting on a court decision they hope will stop the developer from evicting them.
