City Council rejects plan that would reduce garbage truck trips in the Bronx

The City Council has voted against the mayor's sanitation routing plan, which some say would have greatly benefited the Bronx. While many Bronx City Council members are in favor of the plan, the majority vote decided against it. Some members say they haven't had enough say about the proposal, which Mayor Bloomberg (R-NY) said would reduce garbage truck traffic by about 350 trucks a day in the Bronx. The mayor can still veto the City Council's rejection, sending the legislation back to the City Council. If that happens, it would be more difficult for them to reject because it would then require a two-thirds vote against the plan.
