New bill looks to ban smoking in Bronx and city public housing
Bronx residents living in public housing could soon be banned from smoking in their homes. A new bill in the state Legislature would require 50 percent of apartments to become smoke-free immediately. If the bill passes in the state Assembly, the ban will be extended to include all apartments by 2010. Some health advocates are supporting the legislation. They say second-hand smoke can seep through walls and ceilings into neighboring apartments.
