Community group looks to lower infant immortality rate in the Bronx

Bronx infant mortality rates are the highest in the city, according to recent studies. Now, a Bronx community group is launching a new task force to combat infant mortality rates across the borough. Last year, the Department of Health announced the Bronx had about a 30 percent increase in the number of baby deaths. The organization has released a report addressing various areas they say contribute to the fatality numbers. They plan to announce their next step in upcoming weeks. The group reports that of the nearly $3 million the city gave to prenatal care services, only 10 percent of that was allocated to the Bronx. They are pushing to have more money given to the borough this year.
