Yankees announce plans for $800 million ballpark in the Bronx

The Bronx Bombers are announced detailed plans for a new stadium Wednesday. The new ballpark would be located in Macombs Dam Park, which is right next to the current stadium. Construction is set to begin next year, and the ballpark will be ready for the 2009 season. The Yankees have agreed to finance the $800 million stadium, but plan to ask the city and state to chip in for some of the costs. Yankee Stadium, which opened in 1923, is the third-oldest park in use in the major leagues, younger only than Boston's Fenway Park and Chicago's Wrigley Field.
