Bronx libraries face reduction of hours and staff under 2006 proposed budget
Some City Council members took to the steps of City Hall Thursday to urge Mayor Bloomberg to restore funding needed to keep Bronx libraries operating six days a week.
The City Council members say if the mayor fails to restore funding for public libraries in the 2006 budget, many will be forced to operate fewer days and cut staff.
According to the mayor's office, negotiations on the 2006 budget are underway. The mayor says if the City Council makes library funding a priority, then he will work to adjust the budget.
