Tentative agreement calls for extending day for Bronx and city teachers
Although the city and the teacher's union have yet to agree on a contract, they have reached a tentative agreement about extending the school day for teachers.
The proposed agreement would require teachers in the Bronx and city to work an extra hour each week to attend professional development sessions, training and meetings. Teachers' hours were last changed in 2002 when the mayor pushed them to add 100 minutes to their workweek. This is the fourth time in 10 years that the teachers have been called upon to work additional hours.
Before the tentative agreement can take effect, it must be approved by the Panel for Educational Policy and then ratified by the teacher's union.
