Parents voice outrage over the moving of P.S. 2 in Morrisania
Parents in Morrisania say the fight over the moving of P.S. 2 is not over yet.
The elementary school will be moving to P.S. 63 in order to make way for two high schools. According to the PTA president at P.S. 2, education officials made the decision before bringing the idea to parents. Department of Education officials say both P.S. 2 and P.S. 63 were underutilized so that's why they were chosen.
But parents say P.S. 63 is on the city's list of failing schools, which is why they don't want their children going there. One parent whose child attended P.S. 2 says she will pay for private school before she sends her child to P.S. 63.
Department of Education officials say despite parents' concerns, the move is a done deal. Construction to build a new library and music rooms at P.S. 63 will take place over the summer.
