Waterfront organization calls for approval of waste transfer stations in BX

Members of the Organization of Waterfront Neighborhoods rallied on the steps of City Hall Monday to urge the City Council to vote in favor of the proposed marine waste transfer stations.

The group says the transfer stations would take trucks off the streets in the South Bronx. They say the area is burdened with processing one-third of the city's trash. In addition to easing traffic, the activists say the transfer stations would reduce pollution.

The City Council is set to vote Thursday on the plan. Right now the sticking point is the proposed transfer station site at East 91st Street.
