NYPD reports murder rate in the Bronx has declined

New statistics released by the NYPD show that the murder rate in the Bronx is down nearly 8 percent and 15 percent citywide.

The NYPD stats show the murder rate is the lowest it's been in more than 40 years. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly says if the trend continues, the city will be on track to see less than 500 murders this year. Kelly credits the NYPD's anti-crime initiatives.

Despite a decline overall in the Bronx, some neighborhoods have actually seen a spike in crime. In Soundview, there has been a 50 percent increase in the murder rate. The murder rate also increased in areas patrolled by police in the 41st, 43rd, 44th and 52nd precincts.
