Environmental group places Hunts Point company on its dirty dozen list

A Hunts Point company has been handed the Dirty Dozen Award for being called one of the state's worst polluters by an environmental group.

The Citizens Environmental Coalition says the company contributes to the smell and asthma rate in Hunts Point. The New York Organic Fertilizer Company is responsible for processing treated sewage and producing fertilizer. Company officials say they have installed an odor control system to cut the emissions in half but residents say it has not helped.

This is the second year in a row that the company has received the award.
