Bronx recycling center trashes residents? way of life

Recycling has become an antinome for residents on 165th Street. Neighbors of the area are complaining that instead of improving the environment, the local recycling center is polluting its surroundings.

?WE CAN? is a non-profit organization that helps the homeless earn money by redeeming bottles and cans for ?Washingtons and Lincolns.? Residents say the center is responsible for increasing the neighborhood?s rat population and decreasing its property value. Neighbors complain they are forced to close their windows unless they feel like sharing their apartments with the rats that crawl in.

A spokesperson for ?WE CAN? says the group has people working around the clock to trash the problem. Also, the group says the recycling center is not accepting anymore bottles and cans until the environment and residents can breath better.
