Hunts Point company fires back at environmental group for dirty dozen award

A Hunts Point fertilizer company is firing back Wednesday at the environmental group responsible for placing the company on its dirty dozen list.

Last week, the Citizens Environmental Coalition placed the New York Organic Fertilizer Company on the list, claiming the company contributes to the smell and asthma rate in Hunts Point. But the company argues it is actually helping the environment by taking treated waste that used to be dumped in the ocean and turning it into fertilizer.

The company also says it is working on being a good neighbor, adding that it recently spent $2 million on odor reducing technology.
