Parks department offering Bronx residents the chance to get in shape for free

Residents who want to get in shape but can't afford a gym, will now have the opportunity to get fit thanks to a new program being offered by the city's parks department.

The free program called, Step Out New York, is aimed at encouraging people to have a healthy fitness routine. Three days a week, residents can attend one of the visiting parks where they will be led on a 1 to 2 mile walk. Participants will be given pedometers so they can count their steps and track their progress.

The six-week long program is held two evenings a week and on Saturday mornings.
