Report indicates Bronx welfare agencies need a handout

Welfare recipients are not the only ones in need of help. A report released Tuesday by Community Voices Heard, indicates welfare agencies need improvements as well.

The group surveyed city welfare agencies and found the city is failing to move people from welfare to jobs. According to the report, only 8 percent of welfare recipients who enroll in the agency?s employment services and placement program end up punching in time cards and collecting non-government funded paychecks.

Officials say the city?s welfare and job development agencies should collaborate to provide better assistance to welfare recipients.
