New charter school set to open in Mott Haven looks to give kids unique opportunities

A new charter school set to open this fall in Mott Haven is geared towards providing students with unique opportunities that set it aside from all other schools.

The South Bronx Charter School for International Cultures and the Arts was created to give kids a world-class education. Housed in the same building as P.S. 49, the school's principal says students will take classes in both Spanish and English. In addition, there will be classes in art, music and dance.

Come the fall, the school will open to kindergarten and first-grade students only. Each year, grades will be added until fifth-grade is reached. The principal says ultimately she wants the school to become K-8. Admission to the school is first come, first serve.

There will be an information session Friday at Lincoln Hospital's Auditorium. Call 212-786-7900 for more details.
