Bronx track star wins the gold at CUNY Athletic Conference
The CUNY Athletic Conference held its 19th annual scholar athletes awards dinner where some local Bronx players took home the gold.
Marvin Campbell, a track star from Baruch College was honored for both his brawns and his brains. The 800 and 1500-meter competitor showed his endurance exists both on the track and the classroom where he maintained a 3.30 GPA. At the CUNY Indoor Championships, Campbell came in second in the half mile event, third in the 1500-meter and along with his three fellow cohorts, he is the proud owner of a gold medal for the 400 meter relay.
Four other Bronx athletes, all from Lehman College, were honored as honorable mention scholar athletes. Basketball player Monciana Edmondson earned a 3.55 GPA; Christa Grant showed she can serve it up both on the tennis court and in the classroom earning a 3.77 GPA; cheerleader, Venus Hernandez has school spirit both in and outside of school where she holds a 3.70 GPA; and Javier Rodriguez both runs up the track and his impressive 3.61 GPA.
