Mount Eden residents protest against slum landlords

Tenants in Mount Eden walked out the door to rally against building conditions Saturday.

A study by the CASA organization deems almost half the buildings in the Mount Eden area as unsafe. Organizers of the protest say working locks, clean buildings and well-lit streets and hallways are crucial to community well being.

Residents say despite voicing their concerns to landlords over broken windows, bad lighting and dysfunctional locks, the problems remain waiting on the repair man?s to do list. Some boarders say they have been dealing with these unsafe housing issues for years.

CASA leaders say Saturday?s protest is merely a stepping stone, on Monday they plan to rally on the steps of city hall.
